As the Super Bowl approaches, you may find yourself questioning why your husband invests more time in his favorite football team than in your relationship. January, often dubbed “divorce month,” brings forth realizations that your spouse may never love you as deeply as they love the game. Ladies, if you’re contemplating divorce this month, don’t go through it alone. It’s time to assemble your own winning divorce team. Here are some crucial individuals to add to your divorce team roster, ensuring you make informed decisions during this process:

Divorce Team

1. CDFA, Certified Divorce Financial Analyst.

As a CDFA, I’ve assisted countless individuals in comprehending and organizing their assets. To facilitate wise financial choices before, during, and after divorce, my business partner, Karen Chellew, and I have developed the MDS Financial Portrait. This innovative tool helps families nationwide navigate divorce decisions with clarity and emotional detachment.

2. Financial Advisor.

Partnering with a CDFA provides valuable financial insights, while a financial advisor can guide you in making investment decisions post-divorce.

3. Accountant, or tax preparer.

Gather copies of your last three years’ tax returns, including any business tax returns. If you’re unfamiliar with you accountant of lack one, request copies from your local IRS office.

4. Lawyer or Mediator.

If you’re unsure of your readiness or the best approach, consider obtaining the MDS Financial Portrait first. Clients report significant cost savings by having this blueprint before seeking legal representation. It will also uncover what the appropriate representation may be for you and your spouse.

If you do have legal representation already on your divorce team, your MDS Financial Portrait can be shared by all parties on you team to ensure everyone is working with the same data throughout the whole process.

5. Therapist.

Based on research conducted by the American Sociological Association, approximately 70% of women initiate divorces. Whether you’re the one seeking the divorce or not, having an impartial perspective in your divorce team can be beneficial. Although we value female companionship, there are situations where a neutral party becomes essential. Consider seeking the guidance of a trusted therapist to gain clarity during this difficult period. Don’t hesitate to reach out for support.

6. Self-Care Professional.

Amidst stress, it’s essential to prioritize self-care. Treat yourself to a visit to the hairdresser of indulge in a manicure and pedicure. Remember, self-love is vital throughout this process.

On the day of the big game, wear your favorite color, whether attending a Super Bowl party or staying home. Prepare to root for your own team! Empowering yourself will lead to victory, not just this year, but every year.

I’ll be wearing pink, cheering you on every step of the way!
